18-year-old Nigerian defender, Adekoya, signs first professional deal with Burnley

English Premier League club Burnley have confirmed that 18-year-old defender of Nigerian descent, Noah Adekoya, has signed his first professional contract with the club.

The young centre-back, who has been part of Burnley’s youth system since his under-12 days, will remain at Turf Moor until the summer of 2026, according to a statement on the club’s official website.

Born in Liverpool to Nigerian parents, Adekoya rose through Burnley’s academy ranks and recently completed a two-year scholarship under U18s manager Tony Philliskirk. During that time, he captained the youth team to the U18 Professional Development League North title.

Known for his calmness and intelligence on the ball, the teenager has impressed the club’s coaching staff with his leadership, defensive awareness, and ability to organise play from the back.

Adekoya also featured nine times for Burnley’s U21 side last season, scoring his first goal at that level in a 3–0 victory over Fleetwood Town in April.

Speaking after penning his deal, Adekoya said: “Having been here for so long it’s a good feeling, and I’m so happy. Burnley feels like home, and I feel like the staff here have trust in me.”

Burnley’s Academy Manager, Chris Casper, described the youngster as a natural leader. “Noah showed real leadership qualities last season and that, alongside his performances and physical profile, gives us confidence that he can keep improving,” he said.

Adekoya is expected to continue his development with Burnley’s U21 team as he works toward earning a first-team breakthrough in the near future.
