Two people have been arrested after a 23 year old Nigerian, identified as John Temitope Onetufo, was stabbed to death in the Lewisham area of London on New Years Eve, the Metropolitan Police said.
Emergency services were called to Grove Street at about 12:35 pm on Wednesday December 31 after reports of a serious stabbing.
Officers and paramedics found Onetufo with a chest wound.
It was learnt that he was treated at the scene but was later pronounced dead.
Metropolitan Police confirmed that a 17 year old boy and a 23 year old man were detained on January 2 in connection with the killing as both remain in custody as inquiries continue.
Detective Chief Inspector Samantha Townsend, who is leading the investigation, said detectives have pursued multiple lines of enquiry and that the arrests represent a key development.
She offered condolences to the victim s family and urged anyone with information to contact the police.
Townsend emphasised the force s commitment to establishing the circumstances surrounding the incident and bringing those responsible to justice.
