A Nigerian church minister based in Canada, Temmy Omoileri, has recounted a personal experience involving a DNA test demanded by Canadian immigration authorities.
Omoileri, who serves as the Minister-in-Charge of Bethel Chapel Vancouver, shared the story in a post sighted by Diaspora NG on her official X (formerly Twitter) account.

In the post, she recalled how the request for a DNA test on her children caused tension between her and her late husband during their immigration process.
According to her, while she saw the request as a routine procedure, her husband became visibly angry and suspicious, referencing negative stereotypes he had heard about Nigerian women.
Despite feeling insulted, Temmy said she encouraged patience until the test results were released.
“When Immigration Canada requested DNA on my kids that year, my late husband was furious,” she wrote.
“He kept saying different things about what he’s heard about Nigerian women… I told him, can we just wait for the result because I felt his action was disrespectful to me.”
She further revealed that after the results confirmed the children were indeed his, her husband excitedly informed his friend. However, the celebration left her unsettled.
“I stood behind him, and said, so you think they’re not yours? As in, they’re bastards? I just walked away,” she added.
Reflecting on the incident years later, the minister admitted she has since come to understand her husband’s concerns in light of recent reports and rising conversations around paternity fraud.
“As it is today, there are marriages that both parties will never imagine or worry about it. If you know you have doubts about her, please go confirm,” she advised.
Her post has since generated mixed reactions, with many praising her openness and others debating the implications of DNA testing in relationships.
A user identified as Sammy on X wrote: “God bless you for speaking the bitter truth mama. Some of them find it so offensive and disrespectful but the actual truth is that DNA is necessary in a marriage. Truth is everything in a marriage but also do the needful.”
Olufemi Las said, “The fear of every man is raising and training a child, and one day, the doctor will tell him, “Sorry, there is no match.”
However, Ulifirstson stated that “A certain judge from Delta State had 3 grown up children,Many years later, he discovered that those children are not his children. He d*e after some months later,i don’t blame men who are bent on DNA test.”
