UK offers duty-free access to over 3,000 Nigerian products under new trade scheme

The United Kingdom has opened its market to more than 3,000 Nigerian products, including cocoa and cashew, under a new trade initiative aimed at boosting economic ties with developing nations.

The opportunity comes through the UK’s Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS), which offers either zero or significantly reduced tariffs on eligible goods.

The announcement was made by Mark Smithson, Country Director for the UK Department for Business and Trade, in a video shared by the UK in Nigeria.

“Up to 3,000 products from Nigeria qualify for low or zero tariff access to the UK through the Developing Countries Trading Scheme, one of the most generous in the world,” Smithson said.

He added that the UK has made it easier for Nigerian exporters to navigate trade procedures, especially for key commodities like cocoa, textiles, and other goods.

Encouraging local businesses to take advantage of the scheme, Smithson said, “The UK is open and ready to do business with Nigeria. Visit the website to learn more about the Developing Countries Trading Scheme and start trading with us.”
