Coventry University has awarded honorary Doctor of Arts degrees to two of its alumni, a British-Nigerian Fuhad Dawodu and his friend, James Duncan
The two co-creators of the widely followed ShxtsnGigs podcast, received the honour on Sunday, July 21, during a ceremony that celebrated their rise in the entertainment industry.
According to a report by Yahoo news, James and Fuhad first met over 15 years ago as students at Coventry University, where their friendship blossomed into a creative partnership.
A spokesperson for the university praised their journey, describing their success as powerful example of the bonds and opportunities that higher education can foster.
“James and Fuhad met while studying with us and have gone on to create a friendship and a career that has captured the attention of many. With more than two million monthly podcast listeners and 8.4 million TikTok followers, they have created a community for entertainment and connection.
“Their story shows the power of friendship, creativity, and university as being an opportunity to form life-long connections. We were happy to welcome them back to Coventry University and present them with these prestigious awards.”
In a celebratory TikTok post, the podcasters reflected on their beginnings at the university and encouraged others to pursue their dreams.
“This is really, really special for us because we met here over 15 years ago. Our show is all about friendship and good times, and the vast majority of what we talk about is our time at this university. Chase your dreams and believe in them. Be delusional and go for it.”
