The Union Internationale Motonautique E1 World Championship, the world’s first all-electric race boat competition, is set to make its debut with the E1 Lagos GP from October 4 to 5.
The event will take place at iconic Lagos Lagoon.
Lagos joins a prestigious lineup of global host cities-including Monaco, Venice, and Jeddah, for the world’s first all-electric powerboat series.
On hosting the inaugural round of the EI World Championship in Africa, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos affirmed the significance of the achievement, saying, “Lagos State embodies the spirit of energy, enterprise, and relentless progress. We are immensely proud to partner with the E1 World Championship to bring this groundbreaking event to our shores.”
“This collaboration not only presents a unique opportunity to showcase the dynamism of Lagos to a global audience but also serves as a powerful catalyst for promoting sustainable practices and inspiring our vibrant youths to embrace innovation and environmental stewardship”, Sanwo-Olu said.

The E1 teams are owned by some of the biggest names in their respective sporting fields and include Tom Brady, Rafael Nadal, Virat Kohli, Didier Drogba, and Sergio Perez, as well as Steve Aoki and Marc Anthony from the world of music and entertainment.
