Nigeria-Hungarian midfielder, Okeke, leaves Man City after 9years

Nigeria-Hungarian youngster, Michael Okeke has ended his nine-year spell at Manchester City after completing a move to Hungarian topflight side Puskás Akadémia FC.

The Nemzeti Bajnokság I outfit confirmed his signing on Friday, revealing that the 19-year-old midfielder penned a three-year deal that runs until the end of the 2027/28 season.

Although Okeke did not make a senior appearance for the Premier League champions, he was a key figure in their youth setup, helping the U18 side clinch the league title before stepping up to the U21s in 2023.

Born in Manchester to a Nigerian father and Hungarian mother, Okeke began his career at Bolton Wanderers before joining City’s academy in 2016.

His switch to Hungary reunites him with coach Levente Babó, who previously worked with him at U18 and U19 national levels.

Okeke already has seven caps for Hungary’s U21 team and is currently part of Zoltán Szélesi’s squad preparing for next week’s European Championship qualifier against Lithuania.
