Content creator Peter Ugochukwu Okafor, popularly known as Ugo Eaglet, has described his decision to return to Nigeria from Europe as the best choice of his life.
In an Instagram post, Eaglet revealed that the high cost of living abroad, including rent, utility bills, and health insurance, had become overwhelming.
He said his monthly expenses in Austria alone included €1,700 for rent, €240 for electricity, and €400 for health insurance, not including other costs.
“These expenses were just too much. I’m not discouraging anyone from travelling—you have to travel to understand. But when you travel and make it, come back to your home country. Instead of paying unnecessary bills there, come back and invest in Nigeria,” he said.
Eaglet explained that the financial burden had become unsustainable, prompting him to return home.
He also noted that many men, especially those over 50 living abroad, secretly wish to return to Nigeria but often face challenges in convincing their spouses. Such discussions, he added, can sometimes create tension in marriages.
Eaglet praised his wife, Jenny Slimzy, for her support and understanding, saying she had been instrumental in his decision to move back.
“Anywhere you go, I will follow you. Honey, what are we even still doing here? I’m even bored here, let’s go back to our country,” she told him.
“I thank God for giving me a caring, loving and understanding wife. Jenny Slimzy is the best thing that ever happened to me,” he added.
Since returning to Nigeria, Eaglet said he has enjoyed a more comfortable life, free from the financial pressures he faced abroad.
He encouraged other Nigerians living in the diaspora to consider coming back home and investing in the country.
“Coming back to Nigeria is the best decision I made this year. Now I sleep like a baby, no more unnecessary bills or expenses,” he added.
