US warns Nigerians against visa fraud

The United States Embassy in Abuja has cautioned Nigerians against engaging in visa fraud, warning that such acts attract severe and lasting consequences under American immigration laws.

The embassy issued the warning in a post on its verified X handle on Monday, noting that attempts to falsify information or submit forged documents could permanently bar offenders from entering the United States.

“Visa fraud has serious consequences. Lying or providing fake documents can lead to permanent visa bans under US immigration law. This means you will never go,” it said.

The advisory came as the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, to discuss areas of cooperation between both countries.

The engagement was held against the backdrop of heightened diplomatic focus on Nigeria’s internal security challenges.

In recent months, some US lawmakers have described attacks on communities, particularly in the North and Middle Belt, as grave violations of religious freedom.

The US Congress has also called for closer collaboration between the governments of the two countries to safeguard vulnerable populations.
