Detty December: UK based Nigerian decries poor power supply, high data costs after home visit (Video)

A UK based Nigerian woman has shared a harsh account of her Detty December experience in Nigeria, lamenting poor electricity supply, expensive internet data and failing public infrastructure.

In a video posted on X formerly Twitter by user Ourfavonlinedoc and sighted by Diaspora NG, the lady said she was relieved to return to the United Kingdom after spending two weeks in Nigeria.

She said although she enjoyed reuniting with family and socialising with friends, the excitement quickly faded due to what she described as unbearable living conditions.

According to her, power supply was erratic throughout her stay, affecting access to water, while internet data was both costly and unreliable. She claimed she spent about N5,000 every two days on data, amounting to nearly N40,000 in two weeks.

The woman compared the experience with the UK, where she said she pays £15 for 128 gigabytes of data, enjoys unlimited calls and messages and does not need to buy airtime separately.

She also complained about poor road conditions, lack of street lights, dust pollution that affected her health and frequent bank transfer charges which she said kept adding up unnoticed.

The traveller further criticised traffic indiscipline, noting that drivers ignored traffic lights and drove recklessly, a situation she said left her constantly anxious.

Calling on the government to urgently address basic amenities, she said Nigerians deserve a more bearable quality of life, adding that despite the cold weather abroad, she felt genuine relief returning to what she described as a more organised system.
