Two Nigerians detained in India after killing colleague

Indian law enforcement officials have taken two Nigerian nationals into custody following the death of their compatriot, Emeka Christian, after a violent dispute in Pune, India.

The suspects, identified as Chukwudi Okafor, 31, and Samuel Eze, 34, were arrested in connection with the incident, which reportedly happened in the Pisoli-Phursungi axis of the city during the early hours of Monday.

Findings showed that the deceased, a 40-year-old garment dealer with legal residency status in India and a visa valid until 2027, had visited an apartment on Sunday night where a small gathering involving fellow Nigerians was held.

Police sources said the meeting later became tense following a disagreement linked to a personal relationship involving a Nigerian woman who occupied the apartment.

The situation allegedly worsened around 3am when the victim attempted to leave the premises, resulting in a confrontation that escalated into physical violence.

Investigators said Emeka was pursued to the parking area and assaulted with a blunt object, leaving him critically injured.

He was later rushed to a nearby hospital by Gift Utah, an official of the Nigerian Students’ Union in Pune, but was pronounced dead while undergoing treatment.

Security agencies confirmed that the two suspects remain in custody, adding that efforts are ongoing to locate other individuals believed to have taken part in the attack.

Police authorities noted that the investigation is still ongoing, as they continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the deadly incident.
