Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has etched her name in music history as the first African female artiste to record seven entries on the United States Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The latest feat followed the debut of her song, What You Need, which entered the chart at number 93 this week, pushing her total Hot 100 appearances to seven.
With this development, Tems joins fellow Nigerian star, Burna Boy, and South African rock band, Seether, as the African acts with the highest number of entries on the prestigious chart.
Tems had earlier made global headlines in 2022 when she became the first African artiste to debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, following her collaboration with American rappers Future and Drake on the hit song, Wait For U.
Industry watchers believe the singer may soon stand alone at the top, as Bunce Road Blues, a song by J. Cole featuring Tems and Future, is expected to make its debut on the Billboard Hot 100 next week.
Tems’ rising profile continues to underscore the growing influence of Nigerian and African music on the global stage.
