The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has congratulated three Nigerians in the diaspora Shaboozey, Tyler, the Creator and Cynthia Erivo on their victories at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
In a statement on Tuesday, Dabiri-Erewa described the achievements of the award winners as a testament to the creativity, resilience and global influence of Nigerians and persons of Nigerian descent across the world.
Shaboozey, born Collins Obinna Chibueze; Tyler, the Creator, born Tyler Gregory Okonma; and Cynthia Erivo, born Cynthia Chinasaokwu Onyedinmanazu Amarachukwu Owezuke Echimino Erivo, were among the notable winners at the prestigious global music awards ceremony.
The NiDCOM boss said their success on one of the world’s most respected cultural platforms was not only a personal milestone but also a source of collective pride for Nigeria.
She noted that their accomplishments further highlight the far-reaching impact of Nigerian heritage and culture on the global stage.
Dabiri-Erewa also acknowledged the achievements of Nigerian-based artistes such as Davido, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr and Wizkid, among others, who continue to project the country positively through music and entertainment.
She emphasised that despite being based abroad, the Grammy winners’ names, ancestry and family histories remain deeply rooted in Nigeria.
According to her, their global exploits reinforce the richness of Nigeria’s cultural identity and creative talent.
The NiDCOM chairman urged the media, cultural institutions and Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora to embrace a broader and more inclusive sense of national pride by celebrating Nigerian excellence wherever it thrives.
She added that recognising the contributions of Nigerians in the diaspora would foster unity, enhance the country’s global image and inspire younger generations to pursue excellence.
