Osimhen fires Galatasaray to Derby win over Besiktas

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen scored the decisive goal as Galatasaray secured a hard-fought 1–0 victory over city rivals Besiktas in a tense Istanbul derby on Saturday.

Osimhen struck in the 39th minute, heading home a well-delivered cross from Leroy Sane to hand Galatasaray the lead in the crucial encounter.

The goal proved decisive as the league leaders held on to claim maximum points despite being reduced to 10 men later in the match.

Galatasaray’s task became more difficult in the 62nd minute when Sane was shown a red card, forcing the home side to defend their slender advantage for the remainder of the game.

Osimhen’s strike marked his 11th goal in the ongoing Turkish Super Lig season, further underlining his importance to the club’s title push.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Galatasaray managed to keep their defensive shape and prevent Besiktas from finding an equaliser in the closing stages.

Nigeria international Wilfred Ndidi featured for Besiktas and nearly levelled the score late in the match but failed to convert his opportunity.

With the victory, Galatasaray strengthened their grip at the top of the league table with 61 points from 25 matches, moving seven points clear of Fenerbahce, who still have a game in hand.
