Olori Olufunke Theresa Onafowora, a Nigerian-born community leader, has been honoured as one of the “Women of Worth 2026” during International Women’s Day celebrations in Houston.
The award recognises 30 outstanding women for their excellence, leadership, and impact across diverse sectors.
Onafowora was celebrated for her contributions to both professional practice and community development within the Nigerian diaspora.
A registered nurse and licensed financial practitioner, Onafowora is widely admired for her dedication to healthcare and financial empowerment.
Her leadership in the Nigerian community in the United States has earned her particular acclaim.
She is the founder and president of a Nigerian women’s organisation covering New Jersey, New York, and Philadelphia.
For over a decade, she has worked to promote unity, empowerment, and cultural identity among Nigerian women abroad, turning the group into a platform for collaboration, support, and visibility.
Her achievements have been featured in diaspora publications that highlight Nigerian women’s excellence.
She has also served two terms as president of the Rotary Club of Carteret, New Jersey, earning recognition from Rotary International and local authorities for her service.
At the Houston ceremony, Onafowora was hailed as a “Woman of Worth” and described as a “Royal Matriarch of Unity and Service” for her commitment to fostering strong bonds among Nigerians both at home and abroad.
Her inclusion among the 30 honourees not only celebrates her personal accomplishments but also underscores her role as a representative of Nigerian women on the global stage.
