Nigeria’s Enekwechi eyes podium at world indoor championships

Nigeria will be represented by shot put star Chukwuebuka Enekwechi at the 2026 World Indoor Championships, scheduled to hold in Kujawy-Pomerania, Poland, from March 20 to 22.

The 33-year-old enters the competition in excellent form, currently ranked fifth among the 18 athletes set to compete in the men’s shot put, putting him in strong contention for a medal.

Enekwechi has been one of Nigeria’s most dependable field athletes, having competed at global events including the Olympics and World Championships.

He also holds the distinction of being the first African to throw beyond 22 metres in competition.

With Nigeria fielding only one participant, all eyes will be on Enekwechi as he aims to deliver a podium finish against some of the world’s elite throwers.

The championships are expected to be fiercely contested, with minimal margins separating the top performers, making precision, focus, and consistency crucial for medal success.

Observers noted that a strong showing by Enekwechi could further cement Nigeria’s reputation in field events on the global stage and inspire upcoming athletes in the country.

As the event approaches, fans and sports officials alike will be watching closely, hoping the lone Nigerian contender brings home a medal and continues his impressive international record.
