A 37-year-old Nigerian, Ademola Oke, has been found dead at his workplace in the United Kingdom, marking the third reported death of a Nigerian in the country this April.
The incident, which occurred on April 18, was disclosed in a public appeal launched by a family friend, Adejonwo Odutola, on the crowdfunding platform GoFundMe.
According to Odutola, the deceased had left home in good health and maintained regular communication with his wife throughout the day, showing no signs of illness before the incident.
“On April 18, Ademola left home hale and hearty and was in touch with his wife during the day. They even exchanged messages in the afternoon, and everything appeared normal,” he said.
He explained that the situation took a tragic turn later in the day when a colleague on a night shift discovered Oke unresponsive at his place of work.
“Tragically and without warning, he passed away while at work. A colleague who resumed duty at night found him seated on a sofa, unresponsive,” Odutola added.
Emergency responders were reportedly contacted immediately, but Oke was pronounced dead at the scene.
The sudden death has left his 31-year-old wife devastated and solely responsible for raising their two young children, aged six and two.
Describing the deceased as a dedicated husband and father, Odutola said the loss had deeply shaken the family and those close to them.
He noted that the fundraising initiative was created to assist with funeral arrangements and provide financial support for the children as the family copes with the tragedy.
“This cause is deeply important to me because of the love within this family and the impact of this loss. No family should face such emotional pain alongside financial uncertainty,” he said.
As of the time of filing this report, £4,509 had been raised out of the £8,000 target, with appeals for more support from Nigerians in the UK and the wider public.
The development comes amid a string of recent deaths involving Nigerians in the UK, including the reported passing of a mother of three after a prolonged illness and another man who was found dead in his apartment in separate incidents earlier this month.
