NEMA receives 181 Nigerian returnees from Libya

The National Emergency Management Agency has received 181 Nigerians who returned from Tripoli, Libya, under the Assisted Voluntary Return programme coordinated by the International Organisation for Migration in partnership with the Federal Government.

The agency disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, noting that the returnees were received by its Lagos Operations Office in collaboration with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons.

According to NEMA, the evacuees arrived on Sunday night at about 8:13 p.m. through the Cargo Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, aboard an Air Buraq Airline flight.

The agency said the group comprised 159 adults, including 64 men and 95 women, alongside 12 children and 10 infants.

It explained that officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service carried out biometric capturing and necessary documentation upon arrival to ensure proper record-keeping and support reintegration processes.

NEMA added that the returnees were provided with immediate humanitarian assistance in line with the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring a safe and dignified return for its citizens.

The support, it noted, included food, clean water, medical attention, ambulance services, and logistical aid, as well as counselling services.

The agency further stated that the reception exercise was conducted smoothly through collaboration among relevant stakeholders, ensuring that all necessary support services were delivered effectively.
