The United States Department of State has announced plans to introduce a limited-edition passport featuring the image of President Donald Trump.
The initiative, according to reports, is part of activities marking the country’s 250th independence anniversary.
Mock-ups of the redesigned passport shared on the White House’s official X handle show Trump’s portrait on the inside cover, alongside excerpts from the Declaration of Independence, the American flag and his signature embossed in gold.
Another page of the document features a historic painting of the founding fathers during the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
The commemorative passports are expected to be issued in the summer as part of the administration’s “America250” celebrations.
Planned events for the anniversary include a Grand Prix race at the National Mall in August and a UFC event scheduled for June on the White House South Lawn.
A spokesperson for the State Department, Tommy Pigott, said the passports would incorporate customised artwork and enhanced imagery while retaining standard security features.
He added that the design of the cover had been updated, with “United States of America” more prominently displayed above the national crest.
The back cover is expected to feature the American flag, with “250” positioned between the 13 stars representing the 1777 version of the flag.
A State Department official disclosed that the passports would be available to US citizens applying during the rollout period, subject to availability, and would be issued through the Washington Passport Agency.
The release is expected to coincide with the anniversary celebrations in July.
Preparations are ongoing across the US for nationwide events, including a fireworks display at Mount Rushmore.
Passports, like other national documents, serve as internationally recognised identification and are typically valid for up to 10 years.
