Second teen charged over murder of 14-year-old British-Nigerian boy in London shooting

A second teenager has been formally charged in connection with the killing of 14-year-old British-Nigerian boy, Eghosa Ogbebor, who was shot dead in Woolwich, southeast London.

The Metropolitan Police Service confirmed in a statement on Sunday that a 15-year-old boy, whose identity was withheld due to legal restrictions, was arrested on Wednesday, May 6, and subsequently charged with murder. He is expected to appear before the Barkingside Youth Court.

The development follows an earlier charge in the case, with police noting that it marks the second prosecution since investigations began into the fatal shooting.

Eghosa was killed on April 2 after police received reports of gunfire on Lord Warwick Street, Woolwich. Officers from the Metropolitan Police, alongside paramedics from the London Ambulance Service, responded to the scene around 3:40pm and found the teenager with severe gunshot injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene despite emergency efforts.

The latest charge adds to a series of arrests linked to the case. According to the police, a 16-year-old boy from Romford had earlier been charged with murder on Friday, April 10, and remanded in custody after appearing at Thames Magistrates’ Court the following day.

Several other suspects previously arrested in connection with the incident have since been released on bail as enquiries continue.

Those earlier detained include a 19-year-old man arrested in Woolwich on suspicion of murder, a 46-year-old man held on suspicion of assisting an offender, and three youths aged between 14 and 18 arrested in early April. All are currently on bail pending further investigation.

The Metropolitan Police said Eghosa’s family continues to receive support from specially trained officers as the investigation progresses.

“The investigation remains ongoing,” the force stated, adding that detectives are continuing efforts to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killing.
