US deports Nigerian over domestic violence, other convictions

United States immigration authorities have deported a Nigerian national, Ayodeji Olamide Ajayi, following multiple criminal convictions, including domestic violence, as part of intensified efforts to remove undocumented immigrants with criminal records.

The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement disclosed the development in a statement posted on its official X handle on Tuesday.

According to the agency, Ajayi entered the United States in 2007 on a student visa but failed to leave the country after discontinuing his studies.

ICE said the Nigerian remained in the US illegally and subsequently amassed a criminal record involving several offences.

The agency stated that Ajayi had been convicted of domestic violence, trespassing, intimidation and obstruction.

It added that his criminal history also included charges bordering on kidnapping, rape and family neglect.

“Instead, he stayed in the US and got to work on a lengthy rap sheet,” the agency said in the statement.

ICE attributed the deportation to President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement policy aimed at removing undocumented immigrants with criminal backgrounds.

“Thanks to @POTUS’ commitment to getting criminal illegal aliens out of this country, Ajayi will be leaving the United States shortly,” the agency stated.

However, the immigration agency did not disclose the exact date the deportation was carried out or provide further details regarding the offences, including the locations where the convictions occurred and the disposition of the additional charges.

The development comes amid a renewed crackdown by the Trump administration on undocumented immigrants with criminal records, with immigration authorities intensifying enforcement operations and deportations across the country.
