A Nigerian nurse based in the United States, Olufemi Olaifa, has been arraigned before a court in Illinois over allegations of sexually assaulting a female resident at a rehabilitation facility where he worked.
Olaifa, 40, was charged with one count of criminal sexual assault, a Class 1 felony, following an investigation into an incident reported at Alden Estates of Barrington, a rehabilitation centre located in Barrington, Illinois.
According to the Barrington Police Department, officers responded to the facility on February 22, 2026, after receiving a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a 30-year-old female resident.
Authorities said detectives immediately launched an investigation and collected DNA evidence from the complainant, which was later submitted for forensic analysis.
Police disclosed that laboratory results allegedly linked the evidence recovered during the investigation to the suspect.
In a statement, the department said the victim reported that she had been sexually assaulted by a male nurse employed at the facility.
Following the completion of the investigation, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved a criminal charge against Olaifa after reviewing the case file and evidence presented by investigators.
The suspect, who resides in Schaumburg, Illinois, was subsequently arraigned and scheduled to appear before the court for a detention hearing at the Rolling Meadows Courthouse.
The police also noted that the management of Alden Estates of Barrington cooperated fully with investigators throughout the probe.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities had yet to release further details regarding the outcome of the initial court proceedings.
The case remains under judicial consideration.
