Nigeria’s sprint hurdling star, Tobi Amusan, delivered another statement performance on the international stage after winning the women’s 100m hurdles at the Paris Diamond League with a season-best time of 12.28 seconds.
The world record holder began her campaign on a strong note by winning the opening heat in 12.39 seconds, comfortably securing a place in the final ahead of Dutch athlete Nadine Visser, who finished second in 12.44 seconds, while Jamaica’s Demisha Roswell placed third in 12.46 seconds.
Amusan carried her impressive form into the final, where she produced an even more dominant display to claim victory under favourable racing conditions.
Running from lane four, the Nigerian reacted sharply to the starter’s gun with a reaction time of 0.135 seconds before powering through the hurdles with precision to cross the finish line in 12.28 seconds, her fastest time of the season.
American hurdler Grace Stark settled for second place in 12.38 seconds, narrowly ahead of compatriot Alaysha Johnson, who finished third in 12.39 seconds. Visser improved on her earlier performance to place fourth in a season-best 12.41 seconds.
The victory marks another significant step in Amusan’s return to top form after a challenging spell over the past two seasons. Her latest outing highlighted notable improvements in speed, rhythm between the hurdles and finishing strength as she continues preparations for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The reigning Commonwealth champion has shown steady progress throughout the season, with her performance in Paris reinforcing her status as one of the leading contenders for major honours in the months ahead.
Beyond the victory, Amusan earned the maximum 21 Diamond League qualification points, moving to the top of the standings after four of the eight qualifying meetings and boosting her chances of reaching the Diamond League Final.
With the World Championships and Commonwealth Games approaching, the Nigerian’s performance is expected to further raise confidence within Team Nigeria as she continues her quest for more global success.
