Nigerian music star, Oladapo Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’banj, has recorded another milestone after becoming the first Nigerian entertainer to ring the closing bell at the London Stock Exchange.
The award-winning singer announced the achievement in a post shared on his verified X account on Friday, describing the occasion as a landmark moment in his career.
According to D’banj, he was invited to participate in the ceremony as part of activities commemorating the 125th anniversary of the Royal African Society in London.
Reflecting on the event, the “Fall in Love” crooner expressed gratitude for the opportunity and shared photographs from the ceremony.
He noted that the event brought together notable personalities, including the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Terrance Michael Drew, and the President of Afreximbank as well as the Royal African Society’s second patron, Prof. Benedict Oramah.
“On Wednesday, July 22, history was made. I was invited to the London Stock Exchange to ring the closing bell as we celebrated 125 years of the Royal African Society,” D’banj wrote.
He added that sharing the platform with distinguished African leaders and global figures made the occasion even more memorable.
The London Stock Exchange’s Market Open and Market Close ceremonies are reserved for significant milestones, corporate listings, anniversaries and landmark achievements by organisations and institutions.
Founded more than a century ago, the Royal African Society is among the United Kingdom’s oldest organisations dedicated to promoting knowledge of Africa through culture, education, policy engagement and business.
D’banj’s participation in the ceremony marks a significant milestone for Nigeria’s entertainment industry, further highlighting the growing global recognition of African creatives.
