After Ayra Starr, another Nigerian singer, Asake, relocates to US

Popular Afrobeats singer, Ahmed Ololade, professionally known as Asake, has relocated to Los Angeles, United States, in a move aimed at expanding his music career on the global stage.

The singer disclosed that the decision was driven by professional growth rather than an intention to abandon Nigeria, noting that ambition and the pursuit of success are universal.

Speaking in an interview with Office Magazine, Asake explained that the realities of life and success are similar across countries.

“To be honest, it’s still the same thing. Humans are the same. People are trying to make it in Nigeria. People are trying to make it in America. People are rich in Nigeria. People are rich in America. People buy new houses every day in Nigeria. People buy new houses in America everyday,” he said.

Asake also reflected on how solitude helps him remain focused and deeply connected to his creative process, adding that his upbringing and his parents’ love for music played a major role in shaping his journey into Afrobeats.

His relocation comes amid a growing trend of Nigerian artistes moving to the United States, including singer Ayra Starr, who recently relocated to New York City.

Ayra Starr had said the city’s vibrant energy and strong African community made her feel at home as she seeks to broaden her international reach.

The 30-year-old Asake rose to prominence with hit songs such as Omo Ope and Mr Money with the Vibe, and has since performed in major cities across the United States and Europe. Industry observers note that his relocation places him closer to key collaborators and international markets.

The singer also recently parted ways with his former record label to launch his own imprint, Giran Republic, while retaining global distribution partnerships.
