A Nigerian woman living in Chicago has raised concerns over what she describes as an intensified wave of immigration raids in the city, claiming that even citizens and green card holders are being targeted.
In a viral TikTok video, the woman, identified as nocommon1, said, “ICE immigration in Chicago isn’t for the weak. The way they’re packing everybody, I don’t understand even citizens, Black Americans.”
She added that the situation has caused fear and confusion among residents.
“The citizens are panicking; they’re just taking citizens, green card holders, everyone,” she said, highlighting the widespread panic.
Describing the tense atmosphere in the city, she further stated, “America is hot,” suggesting that conditions in Chicago have become increasingly unbearable for immigrants and residents alike.
The warning comes after Amnesty International USA condemned the pre-dawn raid on September 30 at an apartment building in a historically Black neighbourhood in Chicago.
Reports indicated that federal agents broke into homes without warrants, forcibly removed residents including children, zip-tied their hands, and interrogated them without access to legal counsel.
Eyewitness accounts said federal officers used flashbang grenades, broke down doors, and entered nearly every apartment in the building.
Observers noted that the raid mirrors previous patterns under the Trump administration, where federal agents carried out similar warrantless operations in cities such as Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.
