Canada-based ADC members reject INEC move, back Amaechi for 2027 ticket

Some members of the African Democratic Congress in Ontario, Canada, have faulted the Independent National Electoral Commission’s alleged delisting of the party’s leadership, describing the action as unlawful and an interference in internal party affairs.

The group also urged party faithful in Nigeria to remain resolute ahead of the 2027 general elections and work towards unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Executive Director of Compassionate Heart Foundation of Canada and ADC leader in Ontario, Sir Joe Korka-Waadah, called on the party’s leadership not to be discouraged by what he termed the “actions of a compromised electoral body.”

He maintained that the ADC remained a viable platform to drive political change in Nigeria, urging members to stay united and focused.

Korka-Waadah also expressed confidence in former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, as a strong contender for the party’s presidential ticket, citing his political experience and track record in public office.

According to him, Amaechi possesses the leadership capacity needed to reposition the country and tackle prevailing challenges, including economic hardship and insecurity.

“We have an opportunity to reset the country’s trajectory in 2027. The ADC must present a credible and widely acceptable candidate capable of challenging the APC,” he said.

He added that Nigerians in the diaspora were fully supportive of Amaechi’s potential candidacy and urged the party to avoid fielding a weak candidate in the forthcoming election.

The group further stressed the need for unity within the party, noting that a collective effort would be crucial to achieving electoral success in 2027.
