Dayo Olomu bags Global Social Impact Award

Renowned leadership strategist and philanthropist, Dr. Dayo Olomu, has been honoured with the Global Social Impact Award at the 1st Africa Day Awards, held at the prestigious London Hilton Kensington.

The event, organised by the Diaspora Business Forum, took place on Sunday and celebrated prominent African leaders making transformative contributions across the globe.

The award marks Olomu’s 180th career accolade, a milestone he described as a humbling and symbolic early birthday gift ahead of his 60th birthday on June 25, 2025.

In his acceptance speech, Olomu said: “This recognition is not just a personal milestone; it is a tribute to all those striving to make a significant difference in the world. To everyone achieving success while using their talents, treasures, and time to empower others and support charitable causes, this award is for you.”

The ceremony also honoured other high-profile African leaders, including the President of Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio, and the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who both received Lifetime Achievement Awards in Leadership and Governance.

Organisers of the event praised Olomu as a “visionary leader, philanthropist, and changemaker whose life and work have left an indelible mark on communities worldwide.”

With a career spanning 27 years, Olomu has impacted thousands through mentorship, service, and advocacy for excellence and social good.

His dynamic resume includes completing multiple endurance challenges such as five half marathons, three full marathons, three mountain climbs, a 100km London-to-Brighton trek, skydiving, and two 100-mile walks.

These physical feats, the organisers noted, mirror his “extraordinary discipline and passion for pushing boundaries.”

Beyond endurance events, Olomu is widely recognised for his charitable work.

He is the founder of the Dayo Olomu Foundation, an initiative focused on empowering youth and supporting critical health causes, including leukaemia, prostate cancer, and dementia research.

He also regularly supports his local foodbank and has raised funds for numerous humanitarian efforts.

Quoting Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s words to him, Olomu reflected: “Do your little bit of good wherever you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.”
