Dozens of Nigerians deported from U.S over crimes, visa offences

The United States has deported several Nigerian nationals found guilty of criminal activities and immigration-related offences.

The deportation was carried out through a chartered flight arranged by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), in partnership with Nigerian law enforcement agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS).

According to a statement from the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service (DSS), the operation was conducted in close collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria to ensure a smooth and secure removal process.

“DSS special agents work with our partners all over the world to protect America—from both sides of the border. In close coordination with Nigerian law enforcement, our team assigned to @USinNigeria facilitated a @DHSgov charter flight returning dozens of Nigerians with criminal convictions and immigration violations,” the agency posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, @StateDeptDSS.

Though U.S. officials did not specify the number of deportees or the exact charges they faced, the move is part of an ongoing effort to enforce immigration laws more strictly.

In recent years, especially during the Trump administration, the U.S. has stepped up deportations of undocumented immigrants and foreign nationals with criminal records.
