A Nigerian family has demanded clarity over the death of their mother aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight travelling from Abuja to Washington DC, United States.
The family, whose identity was not disclosed, raised the alarm on social media, alleging that the woman died during the flight under circumstances that remain unclear.
In a video shared on X, one of the deceased’s daughters appealed to passengers who were on the same flight to come forward with information on what transpired before her mother’s death.
She claimed that the family had repeatedly contacted Ethiopian Airlines for details, insisting that their mother was healthy before boarding the aircraft, but said the airline had yet to provide a clear explanation.
The woman also urged Nigerians to continue circulating the video to draw the attention of relevant authorities to the incident.
According to her, the deceased boarded Ethiopian Airlines flight ET 950 on January 19, 2026, but died while the plane was en route to the United States, adding that airline officials who rendered first aid were allegedly warned not to speak on the matter.
The appeal has since sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians calling for transparency from the airline and aviation authorities.
Reacting, the spokesman for the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Michael Achimugu, confirmed that the regulator was aware of the case and was already engaging both the family and Ethiopian Airlines.
Achimugu said the airline had submitted its report, adding that the NCAA remained in regular contact with the family and was committed to ensuring a thorough review of the incident.
Efforts to get a response from Ethiopian Airlines were unsuccessful, as its communication strategist, Ikechi Uko, said he was boarding a flight and had yet to return calls as of press time.
