The Federal Government yesterday expressed shock over the violent deaths of two Nigerians in the United Kingdom and Canada within days of the new year.
Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, in a statement issued through Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocol Unit of the commission, described the incidents as shocking and deeply troubling.
She extended condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims.
Dabiri-Erewa commended the swift responses of the UK Metropolitan Police and the Toronto Police Service, calling for thorough, transparent and timely investigations to ensure justice is served.
She assured that NiDCOM would work closely with the Nigerian High Commissions in the UK and Canada to provide necessary support to the affected families.
John Temitope Onetufo, 23, was fatally stabbed on New Year’s Eve in the Lewisham area of London, while Osemwengie Irorere, 46, was shot and killed at the Yorkdale GO Bus Terminal in Toronto on Sunday, January 4.
