The German government has announced that all student visa applications from Nigeria will now be handled exclusively at its visa application centre in Lekki, Lagos.
In a statement shared on its official X account on Tuesday, the German Embassy in Nigeria said prospective students will no longer submit applications directly at the consulate.
Instead, it said applicants will be scheduled to visit the VFS Global centre in Lekki after securing an online appointment.
“This means that once you have registered online and been assigned an appointment, you will be invited to the VFS centre rather than the consulate,” the embassy stated.
Applicants were also advised to consult the VFS Global website for detailed guidance on the application process.
The embassy further revealed that the new arrangement was officially inaugurated on March 25, 2026, by Deputy Consul General Gerald Wolf, alongside Stephen Kubasu, VFS General Manager of Operations.
Recalled that Germany has seen a steady rise in international students in recent years.
In the winter semester of 2024/25, German universities registered around 402,000 international students, marking a 6% increase compared with the previous academic year, according to the DAAD’s Wissenschaft weltoffen report.
