A coalition of Nigerians living abroad has urged security and intelligence agencies in the country to close ranks and intensify joint operations to curb the rising wave of insecurity.
The group, operating under the banner of Concerned Nigerian Residents in the Diaspora, also appealed for stronger collaboration between the agencies and relevant government bodies in order to stem the growing threats posed by bandits and terrorists.
The coordinator of the group, Princess Diana Akinmoyo, raised alarm over what she described as a disturbing escalation of violent crimes across the country, particularly the increasing attacks on schools.
Akinmoyo, in a statement on Saturday, said, “We have been following with deep concerns, an escalation of acts of banditry, kidnapping, and terrorist attacks in Nigeria, especially, with new targets being school children.
“Understandably, this has raised a new level of challenges and panic among Nigerians, given the new wave of boldness and violence perpetrated by the criminals, especially ahead of the 2027 general election.”
She stressed that Nigeria cannot afford heightened instability as the 2027 polls draw near, noting that a secure environment is essential for citizens to enjoy the gains of ongoing reforms.
She added that the deteriorating security situation not only threatens national cohesion but also damages the country’s global image.
Akinmoyo also urged the Federal Government to demonstrate firmness by prosecuting any political office holder found aiding bandits or terrorists.
While reacting to reports of possible intelligence and equipment support from the United States, she voiced concern about the long-term implications of foreign interventions.
According to her, the primary responsibility of the government remains the protection of lives and property, even if international cooperation becomes necessary.
She said the group also appreciates the role of the National Assembly in responding swiftly to security-related requests from the executive.
Her words, “We are happy that the Nigerian Senate under Senator Godswill Akpabio has never delayed any vitally important requests, especially on security issues, sent to her from the Presidency.”
Akinmoyo further commended the unveiling of the National Counter-Terrorism Centre’s Strategic Plan 2025–2030, describing it as a major step toward reinforcing the country’s security architecture.
