Canada is set to welcome thousands of family members of immigrants under the Parents and Grandparents Program, with permanent residents and citizens to receive invitations to bring their loved ones into the country.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced that the 2025 intake process will begin on July 28 and will run for several weeks.
During the period, the agency plans to send invitations to 17,860 potential sponsors who previously submitted an interest-to-sponsor form in 2020.
According to the IRCC, the goal is to approve up to 10,000 complete applications under the federal family reunification program.
“Those selected will be able to complete their applications online through either the Permanent Residence Portal or the Representative Permanent Residence Portal.
The IRCC urged individuals who filled out the sponsorship interest form in 2020 and have not yet received an invitation to monitor their email inboxes closely, including spam and junk folders.
The department also clarified that no new interest-to-sponsor forms will be accepted, as invitations will be drawn solely from the 2020 pool.
“For those who do not receive an invitation, an alternative remains available through the Super Visa, a long-term, multi-entry visa that allows parents and grandparents of Canadians to visit the country for extended periods.”
“The Super Visa permits visits of up to five years at a time and can be extended for an additional two years while the visitor remains in Canada.
