Japa: UK announces new visa, residency fees

The United Kingdom has approved fresh increases in charges for visa, residency and citizenship applications, with the revised fees scheduled to begin on April 8, 2026.

As reported by Vanguard, details released by the UK Home Office show that the new pricing will affect a wide range of applications, covering visitor visas, study permits, employment routes, settlement and citizenship processes.

The development is expected to significantly affect Nigerians, who rank among the highest number of applicants seeking entry into the UK annually.

According to the updated structure, the cost of a six-month visit visa will rise from £127 to £135, while applicants for student visas will now pay £558, up from £524.

The fee for indefinite leave to remain has been increased to £3,226 from £3,029, while naturalisation as a British citizen will now cost £1,709, compared to the previous £1,605.

Long-term visit visa categories were also adjusted, with the two-year visa increasing to £506, the five-year option to £903, and the 10-year visa to £1,128.

Similarly, work visa fees recorded upward reviews, as the Skilled Worker visa now costs £819 for stays up to three years and £1,618 for longer durations, while Health and Care visa applicants will pay £324 or £628 depending on length of stay.

Other visa categories, including Innovator Founder, Start-up, Graduate and Global Business Mobility routes, also witnessed increases, although the High Potential Individual visa fee remains unchanged at £880.

Settlement and related services were not left out, with the route to settlement now pegged at £2,064, while costs for travel documents and nationality services have also been revised upward.
