Fresh concern has gripped the Nigerian community in the United Kingdom following the death of another young member, making it the third such loss within three months.
The alert was raised in a post on X by community advocate Oluomo of Derby and sighted by Diaspora NG, where he expressed deep worry over what he described as a disturbing pattern among recently migrated Nigerians.
According to him, “Just got informed that we have lost another member of the Nigerian community here in the UK.”
He noted that all three deceased men were below 40 years of age and had lived in the UK for less than three years, a trend he said could no longer be ignored.
In the post, he wrote, “There’s a pattern that’s becoming too troubling to ignore. All three of the men we’ve lost in the last three months were under 40 years old and had been in the UK for less than three years.”
While stressing that no clear cause had been identified, he hinted at possible links to health challenges, stress or the strain of overwork faced by many immigrants trying to stabilise in a new environment.
“Whether it’s underlying health issues, stress, or the pressure of overworking to make ends meet, we don’t know for sure but this is frightening,” he added.
Oluomo explained that two of the men had already been buried, while preparations were underway for the funeral of the third.
He urged Nigerians in the UK, particularly men, to prioritise their wellbeing, writing, “To all the men in our @NIUKCommunity, please take your health seriously. Rest. Check yourself.”
He further appealed to community members to pay attention to early signs of health problems, concluding with a plea: “Listen to your body. I’m not a medical professional, but it is deeply worrying that we have lost three young men in such a short time. Please, take care of yourselves.”
