JUST IN: Tinubu confers national honours, cash rewards on Super Falcons for WAFCON victory

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has bestowed national honours on the Nigerian women’s national football team, the Super Falcons, and their technical crew in recognition of their historic victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) held in Morocco.

Each of the 24 players was awarded the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) and will receive a cash reward of the naira equivalent of $100,000.

Members of the technical team were also honoured and will receive the naira equivalent of $50,000 each.

The Super Falcons and their officials were received by the President at the Aso Villa on Monday in a celebratory ceremony attended by top government officials and dignitaries.

While speaking during the conferment honour, the team’s captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, extolled President Tinubu’s support for the entire duration of the tournament.

The Super Falcons captain said, “This 10th title is for you, Mr. President; it is for Nigerians; it is for the Super Falcons and every young child who believes and dreams to be on this stage someday.”
