Media personality and reality TV star, Anita Natacha Akide, popularly known as Tacha, has cautioned Nigerians against romanticizing life abroad, particularly in the United Kingdom.
In a video posted on her official X (formerly Twitter) account and sighted by Diaspora NG, Tacha shared her personal experiences after spending two months in London.
According to the influencer, many Nigerians wrongly assume that everyone living abroad is wealthy, noting that the reality is often quite the opposite.
“Most people here are broke,” she said in the video In fact, the most broke people I’ve met are actually in the UK. Everyone is just managing themselves because things are very expensive. I’m telling you the truth.”
Tacha criticized the common belief that it is easy to earn and live comfortably in foreign countries.
She pointed out that while some people in Nigeria believe sending $100 should be easy for those abroad, they often fail to understand the high cost of living faced by immigrants.
“The living situation here isn’t rosy, most people in Nigeria are actually living better than some people here.”
She acknowledged that relocating abroad is personal choice, but urged Nigerians not to do so under false impressions.
“If you want to move, that’s fine,” she said.
“But don’t move with the mindset that it’s all rosy, sweet, and full of money. You’re not going to be making 300k a day on a taxi and spending a million on cars in a week—unless you’re using the train.”
“Think about it right,” she said. “Two months in London, and I must say, it isn’t as rosy as everyone thinks.”
