A Nigerian-born engineer, Dr. Osatohanmwen Osemwengie, is gaining global recognition for his groundbreaking work in military drone technology and space exploration in the United States.
Originally from Edo State, Nigeria, Dr. Osemwengie has emerged as a key figure in advanced U.S. defense systems and was part of the team behind NASA’s Mars Curiosity Rover project.
Before relocating to the United States in 1982, Dr. Osemwengie served as an administrator at the College of Education in Benin City, where he earned recognition as Educator of the Year for securing funding to support teacher education initiatives.
His contributions to the Nigerian education sector laid the foundation for his later achievements abroad.
Dr. Osemwengie holds an impressive academic record, with seven master’s degrees and four doctorate degrees, including a PhD in curriculum and instruction from the University of Cincinnati.
He is currently pursuing two additional master’s degrees—one in software engineering at Regis University and another in information systems at the Keller Graduate School of Management.
In the United States, his work has become central to the development of drone technology used by the U.S military.
Often referred to as “The U.S. Drone Builder,” Dr. Osemwengie is involved in the design and advancement of drones equipped with modern navigation, surveillance, and collision avoidance systems.
His current focus includes the creation of advanced drone simulation software and military-grade operational tools.
His influence extends to space exploration, having contributed significantly to the development of the Mars Curiosity Rover, which continues to send data from the Martian surface years after its successful deployment by NASA.
In addition to his scientific and technological pursuits, Dr. Osemwengie is also the founder of Open Robotics University, a tuition-free, engineering-focused institution aimed at providing quality education and hands-on training in various fields of engineering.
The initiative seeks to support aspiring engineers, particularly those who may face financial barriers to accessing formal education.
Dr. Osemwengie’s work has drawn praise from both the academic and scientific communities, as well as from Nigerian professionals in the diaspora, who view his achievements as a strong example of the global contributions of Nigerian talent.
