NEMA welcomes 100 Nigerian returnees from Algeria

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) on Wednesday received 100 Nigerians returning from Algeria.

The returnees arrived at the Cargo Terminal of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on an Air Algerie flight with registration number 7T-VJT, according to Manzo Ezekiel, NEMA’s Head of Media.

Ezekiel explained that the arrivals were part of the Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) programme, facilitated jointly by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the Federal Government of Nigeria.

He provided a breakdown of the returnees, noting that 96 were adults 77 males and 19 females while four were infants, comprising two boys and two girls.

Upon arrival, officials from the Nigeria Immigration Service conducted biometric registration and documentation to ensure accurate records for smooth reintegration into the country.

Ezekiel said the Federal Government remained committed to providing a safe, dignified, and humane return for its citizens.

As part of the reception process, the returnees were offered humanitarian assistance, including food and potable water, medical care, ambulance services, luggage handling, and logistical support.

He added that counselling and general coordination services were provided to facilitate an organised and seamless reintegration process for the returnees.
