The Nigerian government on Wednesday announced an upward review of Nigerian Standard Passport fees.
The new fee structure, unveiled by the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), sees the cost of a standard 32-page 5-year passport rise from ₦50,000 to N100,000, while the 64-page 10-year passport jumps from ₦100,000 to N200,000.
Both fees are 100% increase—meaning the new fees are double the old fees.
The NIS cited the rising cost of production, the need for better technology, and the urgent drive to clear massive application backlogs as reasons for the “necessary and long-overdue adjustment.”
The new rates, which take effect on September 1, 2025 , apply to applications processed within Nigeria. For the millions of Nigerians living in the diaspora, passport fees at foreign missions and application centers will remain at their current rates.
Fees made by Nigerians in diaspora remain unchanged at $150 for 32-page with 5-year validity and $230 for 64-page with 10-year validity.
The latest adjustment comes barely a year after a previous increase took effect on September 1, 2024. At that time, the cost of a 32-page, five-year passport was raised from ₦35,000 to ₦50,000, while the 64-page, 10-year booklet jumped from ₦70,000 to ₦100,000.
