‘Nigeria feels like home’ – Chelsea defender, Adarabioyo

Chelsea’s new signing, Tosin Adarabioyo, has described his trip to Nigeria as”deeply emotional”, calling it a homecoming experience that connected him to his roots.

Speaking in an interview with ARISE NEWS, the English-born defender said stepping onto Nigerian soil for the first time was unforgettable.

“From the moment I landed, there was a sense of calm — like I was exactly where I belonged,” he said.

“Breathing the air, being welcomed so warmly… it felt very special.”

Adarabioyo, who recently joined Chelsea from fellow Premier League side Fulham, visited Nigeria with his brothers and extended family for the first time.

When asked if he plans to represent Nigeria on the international stage, Adarabioyo said the decision is still under consideration.

“It’s something I’m thinking about. It’s been on the table for years, and I’ll make a decision at the right time.”

The centre-back also spoke about the high expectations that come with wearing the Chelsea jersey.

“At a club like Chelsea, you’re expected to win. “You walk into the training ground and see all the trophies on the wall. That’s the level. You know you have to add to that legacy.”

As part of his efforts to give back to the society, Adarabioyo announced that he would be hosting a youth football tournament titled Adarabioyo Youth Cup in Lagos.

“We’re hosting the tournament today at 4pm in Lagos. It’s something I’m really passionate about. I want to meet young players, fans, and contribute to developing the next generation of talent here,” he said.

On the issue of racism in European football, the 26-year-old acknowledged that discrimination still exists but added that players have learned to stay focused.

“It happens occasionally, but we just get on with the game. You try not to let it affect you,” he said.
