American rapper and internet personality Darryl Dwayne Jr. popularly known as DDG has set social media abuzz after saying Nigeria is safer than the United States in a video filmed during his visit to Lagos.
In a clip shared on X by CutnPaid on Thursday, January 1, DDG challenged prevailing narratives about security in Nigeria, arguing that the scale and nature of violent crime in the U.S. especially gang-related shootings made America more dangerous in his experience.
“I think America is the most dangerous country there is, to be honest. I don’t think Nigeria is as dangerous as America, nowhere near,” he said, adding that while robberies occur in Nigeria, the frequency of shootings is far lower than what he has seen in the United States.
DDG urged would-be visitors not to be put off by negative stereotypes about Nigeria. “So if anybody is thinking about coming out here, just pull, bro,” he told viewers.
The video has drawn mixed responses online, with some users welcoming his observations and others disputing his assessment.
