Nigeria prepares to evacuate citizens amid escalating Israel-Iran tensions

The Federal Government of Nigeria has begun making arrangements for the emergency evacuation of its nationals currently in Israel and Iran, as the conflict between the two Middle Eastern countries continues to escalate.

Tensions between Israel and Iran have reached unprecedented levels, with both nations exchanging fire for six consecutive days, raising international concerns about a wider regional crisis.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the Nigerian government advised citizens in both countries to follow all security advisories and promptly contact the nearest Nigerian Embassy or Mission to register and receive further guidance.

The Ministry praised the efforts of Nigeria’s diplomatic missions in Tel Aviv and Tehran for their proactive engagement with the Nigerian communities during this period of uncertainty.

“The Federal Government assures the public of its unwavering commitment to the safety and wellbeing of Nigerian citizens, whether within or outside the country. We are working closely with international stakeholders and local authorities to ensure a safe and timely evacuation of Nigerians in affected regions,” the statement read.

The government also reiterated its appeal for an immediate end to the hostilities and urged all involved parties to engage in peaceful dialogue, uphold international humanitarian standards, and safeguard civilian lives.

“Nigeria maintains its position in favour of peaceful conflict resolution and remains dedicated to the promotion of global and regional peace and security,” the Ministry added.
