Actress-filmmaker Toyin Abraham has enjoyed a strong start in the United Kingdom as her latest feature, Oversabi Aunty, grossed £16,205 during its opening weekend in selected cinemas.
The film, which premiered on December 19, drew sizeable audiences across a limited release, with screenings at selected Odeon outlets sustaining interest beyond its debut days.
Reacting to the box-office returns on social media, Abraham thanked fans for their support, describing the turnout as “beyond huge.”
“I honestly don’t know how to thank my UK family, this love is beyond huge! Just 3 days of opening weekend in the UK, and you all showed up massively. My voice is of the Lord, and you all keep covering my body with your love and support,” she wrote on Instagram, adding that Oversabi Aunty remained on show at selected Odeon cinemas.
Industry watchers said the weekend haul underlines the growing commercial reach of Nollywood productions in international markets, particularly titles led by established stars with strong diaspora followings.
Oversabi Aunty’s performance adds to Toyin Abraham’s track record of commercially successful projects and further cements her standing among Nollywood’s leading filmmakers.
