Nigerian-born public official Nwachinemere Kalu-Agba has been re-elected as Deputy Mayor (Mayor Pro Tem) of the City of Orangeburg, South Carolina, for another two-year term ending in 2027.
His re-election was announced on Sunday in a Facebook post by Peter Agba Kalu, who congratulated him and encouraged the public to celebrate the achievement.
Kalu-Agba, who also serves as a City Council representative for his district, previously held the Deputy Mayor position before stepping down in line with a new state law.
The law stipulates a two-year tenure for the Mayor Pro Tem, after which a new official must be elected.
The legislation also bars immediate re-election, allowing former officeholders to contest again after a cycle has passed.
He returned to the position following the conclusion of his successor’s tenure and will continue to serve concurrently as both Deputy Mayor and City Council member.
