A Nigerian businessman, Briggs Egharevba, has filed a lawsuit against a Missouri-based woman, Adesuwa Renee Ogiozee, alleging that she defrauded him of $147,000 in a failed car purchase deal.
Egharevba, who sued through the United States legal system, claimed he paid the sum to Ogiozee, the owner of Adesuwa Auto LLC, an online luxury car brokerage firm based in St. Louis, for a Lexus LX600 SUV that was never delivered.
According to court filings, the businessman made the full payment in October 2023 to cover the $143,000 cost of the vehicle, alongside $3,000 for shipping and a $1,000 brokerage fee.
He said Ogiozee initially provided photographs of the car and promised delivery by the last week of November that year.
However, Egharevba said the vehicle never arrived, and instead, he received repeated excuses over the next 18 months about alleged delays caused by inspections, paperwork, and holiday shipping.
After several unfulfilled promises, the Nigerian buyer reportedly discovered that the pictures of the Lexus LX600 sent to him were stock images and not photographs of an actual car meant for him.
He has therefore sued Ogiozee for fraudulent misrepresentation, breach of contract, unjust enrichment, and conversion, as well as for violating Missouri’s Merchandising Practices Act. He is seeking the recovery of the $147,000 he paid, alongside legal and additional damages.
As of press time, Ogiozee had yet to respond publicly to the allegations.
