Nigerian govt lauds female biker, UK-based boxer for promoting country’s image

The Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has praised the determination and resilience of Ms. Chinyenwa Judith Amadi, a Nigerian female biker who completed a historic ride from Lagos to France and back to raise funds and awareness for cancer patients in Nigeria.

Dabiri-Erewa also commended Mr. Odera Okwvosa, a fitness entrepreneur and professional boxer based in the UK, for his patriotism and mentorship of young Nigerians.

In a statement issued Monday by NIDCOM’s Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the Commission’s boss described both guests as exemplary Nigerians promoting the country’s image through their achievements.

She reaffirmed NIDCOM’s commitment to supporting Nigerians in the diaspora who contribute positively to national development and assured Amadi and Okwvosa of the Commission’s willingness to partner with them in their professional endeavours.

Amadi, who rode her power bike to NIDCOM’s Lagos office, began her journey on October 8, 2025, aiming to raise ₦100 million for cancer patients. Despite sustaining a finger injury in Burkina Faso, she completed the ride, overcoming challenges including harsh weather, long distances, poor roads, and discrimination at some West African borders.

The biker, who hails from Owerri, Imo State, said her motivation stemmed from a desire to support cancer patients and challenge societal expectations for women from conservative backgrounds.

She encouraged young Nigerians to pursue their dreams boldly and without procrastination.

During the meeting, Dabiri-Erewa also praised Okwvosa, a multiple heavyweight titleholder in the UK, for projecting a positive image of Nigeria through his sporting and media engagements.

The boxer, who visited Nigeria during the “Detty December” festivities, said the country’s culture and the warmth of its people draw him back home and pledged active participation in future NIDCOM programmes.
