Kenyan government has arrested a Nigerian and a Kenyan national following an intelligence-led operation targeting a suspected narcotics trafficking network.
The operation, conducted by detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit in collaboration with the Transnational Organised Crime Unit, was initially aimed at a planned drug exchange in Syokimau, Machakos County, but the meeting was aborted.
Investigators subsequently redirected the operation to Ruaka in Kiambu County based on real-time intelligence from covert sources, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said in a statement on Wednesday.
During a search of a property at Mbuti Apartments, Ruaka, officials recovered several items, including pellets and packages suspected to be narcotic substances, digital weighing scales, mobile phones, foreign passports, and cash in both Kenyan and Nigerian currencies.
The suspects were identified as Okeke Ikechukwu, a Nigerian, and Alex Opondo, a Kenyan.
They were taken to Ruaraka and Pangani Police Stations for processing, while all recovered items were secured for forensic examination.
The DCI confirmed that the suspects are expected to appear in court today as investigations continue.
Authorities said efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend additional members of the alleged trafficking network.
