A 28-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of a 20-year-old university student whose body was found late last month, Toronto police said.
The Toronto Police Service identified the suspect as Babatunde Afuwape, a resident of the city, and said he faces a charge of murder over the death of Shivank Avasthi on December 23, 2025.
The announcement was posted on the force’s official X account.
Investigators said they believe the accused may have had contact with other people on the day of the incident and appealed to anyone with information to come forward.
Police stressed that even seemingly minor observations could prove important to the probe and provided dedicated lines for both direct and anonymous tips.
No further information about how Avasthi died was released as inquiries remain active.
Police said they will share additional details as the investigation progresses.
